Our client, a luxury fragrance brand, is seeking a Director or Senior Director, Retail East Coast to join their team in NYC. This role will be in-office Monday and Tuesday, and traveling to stores the rest of the week (approximately 70% of the time, with frequent overnights). This position will lead the commercial performance and strategic direction of a large, multi-market retail portfolio spanning the Eastern and Central United States and Canada. This senior leader will be responsible for driving sustainable sales growth, profitability, operational excellence, and an exceptional customer experience across the region.

Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Leadership
  • Own overall sales and business performance across the regional retail portfolio.
  • Develop and implement strategies that drive sustainable revenue growth, profitability, and store productivity.
  • Evaluate sales trends, financial performance, and key business metrics to identify opportunities, risks, and areas for improvement.
  • Drive thoughtful decision-making across sales, labor, inventory, and operating expenses to maximize productivity and profitability.
  • Partner closely with Finance on annual budgeting, forecasting, expense management, and financial planning.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and ensure teams remain focused on key business objectives.
Regional Strategy & Growth
  • Translate broader company priorities into a clear, actionable regional retail strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen market performance, expand the retail footprint, and deepen customer relationships.
  • Monitor competitive activity, market trends, and consumer behavior to inform regional strategy and leadership decisions.
  • Support new store openings and ensure new locations are positioned for long-term commercial success.
  • Continuously assess the portfolio to identify opportunities to improve performance and market relevance.
Leadership & Talent Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Area Managers and senior retail leaders across the region.
  • Create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Establish clear goals and hold leaders accountable for achieving business and operational objectives.
  • Build a strong talent pipeline and develop succession plans for key leadership positions.
  • Partner with Human Resources on talent planning, organizational effectiveness, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Develop future leaders and create opportunities for career growth across the retail organization.
Customer Experience
  • Champion a consistently elevated customer experience across all retail locations.
  • Develop and drive customer engagement, clienteling, and CRM strategies to strengthen loyalty and increase lifetime value.
  • Ensure stores consistently deliver a high level of service, product storytelling, and overall customer engagement.
  • Maintain consistency in the customer experience across markets while allowing for relevant local market considerations.
  • Serve as a senior representative of the company within the region and in key market relationships.
Retail Operations & Visual Merchandising
  • Ensure consistent execution of operational standards and retail best practices across the portfolio.
  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to improve inventory availability, product flow, and overall store efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and implement scalable solutions that improve store performance.
  • Ensure stores maintain high standards of visual presentation and merchandising execution.
  • Evaluate visual merchandising effectiveness and productivity across individual locations.
  • Balance operational discipline with an elevated and compelling in-store environment.
Compliance & Policy
  • Ensure all locations operate in accordance with company policies, applicable labor regulations, safety requirements, and operational standards.
  • Partner with Human Resources to appropriately manage employee relations, performance concerns, and related documentation.
  • Ensure operational, compliance, and reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and adherence to company policies across the region.
Executive & Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership on regional business priorities, growth opportunities, and retail strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance, Marketing, Sales Excellence, Training, Operations, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and other corporate functions.
  • Bring market and field insights to corporate leadership to help shape broader business initiatives and decision-making.
  • Act as a key connection point between corporate teams and field leadership, ensuring priorities are clearly communicated and effectively executed.
  • Influence cross-functional partners and senior stakeholders to drive alignment and deliver results.
Qualifications & Skills
  • 8+ years of progressive multi-unit retail leadership experience, ideally overseeing a large, complex, and geographically dispersed store network.
  • Experience within a premium, luxury, specialty, or elevated retail environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading leaders and driving performance across multiple markets and locations.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with experience managing budgets, forecasting, expenses, and overall business performance.
  • Proven ability to improve store productivity, profitability, and operational performance.
  • Exceptional customer experience orientation with a strong understanding of client engagement and relationship-building strategies.
  • Strong operational mindset with the ability to balance strategic priorities with hands-on execution.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, influencing, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop talent, build strong teams, and create succession pipelines.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, complex organization with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the region as needed.
Salary:$185K - $200K
