Our client, a global consumer products organization, is seeking a Regulatory Affairs Lead, Beauty & OTC. This individual will partner closely with cross-functional teams including Product Development, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and Research & Development to provide strategic guidance throughout the product lifecycle. The role will focus on ensuring compliance with applicable U.S. regulatory requirements, advising on product claims and marketing practices, mitigating legal risk, and developing scalable compliance processes to support a growing business. This person must bring prior experience supporting cosmetic and/or OTC products. This hybrid role sits in the NYC office 3 days a week and works remotely 2 days a week.
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary legal advisor on regulatory matters related to product development, marketing, labeling, packaging, and commercialization.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to provide practical guidance on compliance with applicable federal and state regulations governing consumer products.
- Review product claims, marketing materials, advertising content, packaging, and consumer-facing communications to assess regulatory and legal risk.
- Advise on substantiation standards, testing protocols, consumer research, and supporting documentation related to product claims.
- Monitor developments in regulatory enforcement, industry trends, and litigation impacting consumer products and marketing practices.
- Translate regulatory changes and emerging legal risks into actionable guidance for business partners.
- Develop and enhance internal compliance frameworks, review processes, policies, and training programs to support efficient decision-making and risk management.
- Collaborate with outside counsel and internal stakeholders on regulatory matters, disputes, and other legal issues as needed.
- Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on legal and regulatory considerations that impact business objectives and growth initiatives.
- Deliver training and educational programs to business teams on regulatory compliance, advertising standards, and best practices.
Job Qualifications:
- J.D. degree and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 6+ years of legal experience focused on regulatory, advertising, marketing, or consumer products matters, gained through a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination of both.
- Experience advising businesses operating in highly regulated consumer product environments.
- Strong understanding of U.S. regulatory frameworks governing product claims, labeling, advertising, and consumer communications.
- Demonstrated ability to build or improve compliance programs, policies, and operational processes.
- Familiarity with regulatory enforcement trends and consumer litigation risks related to marketing and advertising practices.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders across multiple business functions and geographic regions.
- Strong business judgment, communication skills, and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance.
- Experience supporting global organizations and collaborating with international teams is a plus.
- Interest or experience within beauty, personal care, wellness, consumer packaged goods, or similarly regulated industries is preferred.
Salary: $200-240K
