From My Home(Office): Let the Sunshine In
As week 10 begins, a routine normalcy starts to settle into working from home. The weather this weekend gave us all a reprieve from the indoors on the East Coast, flowers are blooming, birds are singing, and it seemed optimism was growing. I am hopeful to keep this optimism growing as the summer season begins.
With this new “abnormal”, it is easy to fall victim to negative thoughts, and this week I want explore ways to keep the sunshine in. Here are some of the ways my team and I at PCG are supporting each other during this time.
- Brainstorming- by round tabling ideas, we have been able to offer services to our clients and candidates during this time to help support job placement and re-openings.
- Investing in yourself- your mental and physical well-being by taking walks, meditating, reading a book, turning off electronics while eating a meal.
- Video chats- it is so comforting to see people’s faces during this time, but it is not always easy to keep the conversation going. We love using fun questions to engage each other beyond our work- a large part of who we are as a company is who we are as individuals.
- Communicating- Less email, more phone, so you can connect with people and have authentic conversations versus transactional information.
- Goal-setting- Setting small, achievable goals to allow yourself to celebrate a baby step forward.
- Offering support to those around you and not saying “this isn’t in my job description”.
- Maintaining a break in your work/personal life schedule- sure, it is easy to let them both bleed together since we are home, but setting boundaries around start and finish times can give you and those around you added benefit.
- Paying it forward- small acts of kindness- whether it is a “how are you” phone call, a special treat, a funny meme, or even a tasty treat can make someone’s day brighter.
